In buildings, air conditioning ducts often run through various floors. In the event of a fire, ducts without proper fire protection measures can become pathways for the spread of fire. Therefore, selecting insulation materials with good fire resistance is crucial for ensuring personal safety and minimizing property damage.

I. Fire Safety Codes and Standards

1. National Standards: In China, the fire resistance performance of insulation materials must comply with relevant national standards, such as the "Classification of Burning Performance of Building Materials and Products".

2. Local Standards: Different regions may have different regulations and standards specifying the fire resistance performance of insulation materials. For example, some buildings with high fire resistance requirements (such as cinemas and theaters) may require insulation materials to achieve a Class A fire resistance rating.

II. Fire Resistance Performance of Common Insulation Materials

1. Rubber and Plastic Insulation Cotton

Fire Resistance Rating: Rubber and plastic insulation cotton is typically rated B1 fire resistance, meaning it has a certain degree of fire resistance and can prevent the spread of flames for a certain period of time.

Advantages: Environmentally friendly, low thermal conductivity, good fire resistance, thin material saving space, easy and quick installation.

Application Scenarios: Suitable for air conditioning duct insulation in most residential and commercial buildings.

2. Glass Wool

Fire Rating: Glass wool is a Class A fire-resistant material with excellent fire resistance.

Advantages: High temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, flame retardancy, sound absorption.

Application Scenarios: Suitable for locations with high fire protection requirements, such as high-rise buildings, hospitals, and schools.

3. Rock Wool

Fire Rating: Rock wool is also a Class A fire-resistant material with excellent fire resistance.

Advantages: High temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, flame retardancy, sound absorption.

Application Scenarios: Suitable for locations with extremely high fire protection requirements, such as chemical plants and large shopping malls.

Choosing the right insulation material is crucial for improving the safety of air conditioning ducts. Rubber and plastic insulation cotton is widely used due to its good overall performance, but for locations with particularly high fire protection requirements, materials with higher fire ratings should be considered.
